Project Objectives
The major objective of the Pileus Project is to address the impacts of climate variability and change, in a form that is operationally useful to stakeholders in the Agriculture and Tourism Industries. Additional project objectives include:
- Cultivating stronger stakeholder-research partnerships in which stakeholders help establish assessment goals
- Identifying specific information needs, and provide expertise, data, and information
- Developing quantitative, interactive models that effectively simulate relationships between climate variability and the agriculture and tourism industries
- Integrating stakeholder input and model simulations to develop decision support tools for effective risk management for the Great Lakes Region based on state-of-the-art climate science
To achieve these objectives, the Pileus rsearchers are working closely with stakeholders to determine the types of information that would be most useful to decision makers, and to obtain key inputs for simple impact models that stakeholders from the agriculture and tourism industries can use to evaluate alternative climate scenarios.
